The People at Woodford
At WHC, we are committed to providing tailored person centred care and this has been a service hallmark in neighbourhoods wherever Woodford has offered support. We are well respected by the multidisciplinary health and social care teams we work with and are judged as setting a ‘gold standard’ for meeting the needs of the people we support.
The Woodford team has extensive experience of making positive community links and integrating locally to access services and resources. We have a resilient, determined and dedicated team and work diligently to meet the diverse individual needs of those people we serve. Woodford emphasises the individual’s right to community access and we strive to build, maintain and sometimes, re-establish critical links with family and friends that can greatly enhance the emotional well-being of the people we support as well as other key people in their lives.
Woodford takes great pride in its award winning care and support services, established by our CEO, Helen Wilcox who has been awarded the MBE for her dedicated commitment to advancing Adult Social Care provision. Helen’s vision and determination to improve social care at all levels is well recognised and highly respected throughout the UK. Under Helen’s direction and with the support of her husband, Prof Dan Wilcox, the Woodford team can deliver tailored packages of care to meet each individual’s diverse needs.

One of Woodford’s many recent success stories is reflected in our collaboration with a local family to create a uniquely tailored person centred support plan for their daughter. Through collaborative efforts between family and WHC this young woman from Edgbaston has now been able to return to her childhood neighborhood after spending several years in hospital following a seriously debilitating health and mobility disruption that greatly undermined her independence and general wellbeing. With Woodford’s support, from the start of 2021 this young lady has been able to live in her own home, with her own core team of care workers who support and empower her to make her own choices as much as possible while providing 24/7 care both in her home and out in her local community.
The team at Woodford has facilitated many positive experiences for this young person and in discussion with her and her family, we have regularly reviewed and adapted our engagement approach to improve the services provided. Being on a continuous ‘learning curve’ has also helped us to make further improvements to other new and existing packages of support and care we offer.

• Need full time support in their own homes

• Present with behaviours that may impede their development
We also work to help individuals to transition:
• From assessment and treatment units as well as primary care services
• From home or residential schools and other placements for young adults
• From other settings where individuals are ready to move to a less restrictive and more personally empowering living arrangement.
